Our Children’s Church Ministry is designed to provide children with an opportunity to worship God and to hear God’s Word taught in an engaging way while their parents are in the main Sunday morning worship service.  Children are encouraged to worship God through singing, fun activities, and an age-appropriate, God-centered Bible lesson.

Each Sunday morning, children accompany their parents into the main worship service where they worship with their parents until they are dismissed for Children’s Church. All parents, and especially those who are new to our church or who are visiting, are welcome to attend with their children to experience Children’s Church first-hand.

As a church which recognizes the primary responsibility for discipling children rests on parents, we support the decision of parents who choose to have their children remain with them in the regular church service.  Yet our hope and encouragement is for parents in our congregation, to take advantage of our Children’s Church Ministry.

2025 Report
2025 was a year filled with joy, creativity, and spiritual growth as we continued teaching and directing the talented young ladies in Kidz Church.
Our program focused on bringing the Bible to life in fresh, engaging ways that captured the girls’ hearts and imaginations.

In February, we enjoyed a beautiful Valentine’s performance with the help of guest guitarist Shannon Alex. The girls sang four songs, joined by Ashlyn Abe, creating a heartfelt time of celebration and worship.

Throughout the spring, the class poured weeks of creativity into making sparkling pink-and-glitter paper-mâché “Full Armors of God.” Alex, Akeelah, and Merlin looked absolutely radiant as they recited Psalm 91 while dressed in their shining armor, complete with feathered gold centurion helmets — an unforgettable sight! The children also dove deep into Ephesians 6:10-18, learning about each piece of the Full Armor of God and what it means to stand strong in faith. For our Easter potluck, the girls proudly presented their creations in a special performance of Psalm 91. They had carefully crafted their own costumes from cardboard and paper-mâché, adorning them with feathers, glitter, jewels, and plenty of purple and pink for a beautiful, girly flair.

The highlight of the year came on December 14, when we performed the play I wrote and directed, The Prodigal Kitten — a fun, feline retelling of the Parable of the Prodigal Son. The production was brought to life at the end of the morning service by Paula Namirembe, Alexandra Kiige, Merlin Theora Pradeep, Tarrie Ellis, Nella Namiiro, and Akeelah Kiige, with Tony Rayan graciously stepping in to play Father Kitten.
The story followed the younger kitten as she left her loving father’s cozy home, tempted by the glittering city lights, flashy “baddie cats,” and a mischievous magpie. After facing hardship in the city, she returned home repentant. Father Kitten welcomed her with open arms, a new collar, and a joyful feast — a powerful reminder that no matter how far we wander, our Heavenly Father is always ready to forgive and restore us. The girls delivered their lines with dramatic enthusiasm, complete with borrowed familiar songs, energetic movement, and plenty of feline flair. Pastor Catherine sourced wonderful cat costumes, and Margaret Asselstine created a giant bouncing ball of yarn that added a delightful creative touch.

Sadly, shortly after the performance, we said goodbye to our beloved Merlin as she returned to India with her mom. She is greatly missed by everyone in Kidz Church.

Teaching these bright, creative girls has been the highlight of my life. Through rehearsals, costumes, songs, and laughter, they not only learned Bible truths but also experienced the joy of using their gifts for God’s glory. The messages of The Prodigal Kitten, Psalm 91, and the Full Armor of God have left a lasting impression on all of us.

It is truly an honour and a pleasure to serve as Kidz Church Director.
